The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism - Our History

The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism was established at Miami Springs Senior High School in 1987 as a collaborative effort between the American Express Philanthropic Foundation and Miami–Dade County Public Schools. The program exposes high school students to the wide variety of opportunities and career paths in one of the world’s largest industries. A member program of the National Academy Foundation, a national network of career-themed academies, the academies have expanded to John A. Ferguson Senior High School, Homestead Senior High School, Miami Beach Senior High School, Miami Norland Senior High School and Robert Morgan Educational Center. A majority of over 2000 graduates have reported that “their teachers and the Academy coursework motivated them to do better in school and seek more challenging educational experiences.”
